Transferring a foreign investor’s profits from Egypt involves investment rights as well as a complete accounting and banking file. Investors who organize records from the start of operations are better placed to explain the source and nature of funds when requesting a transfer. The key is to distinguish distributable profits from company revenue, repayment of financing, or service fees.
The legal guarantee and the banking procedure
GAFI lists the investor’s right to earn profits and transfer them abroad among investment guarantees. Executing a transfer requires checking the requirements that apply with the bank and the competent authorities, based on the facts. This right does not remove identity, source-of-funds, accounting, or tax checks.
Identify the nature of the payment
Is the amount a dividend to a shareholder, repayment of a loan, or payment for services to a foreign supplier? Each transaction calls for different supporting records. An inaccurate description may lead to further document requests or inconsistencies with the financial statements. Check the contractual and accounting basis before approving payment, and avoid combining unrelated transactions in one transfer without an explanation.
Suggested preparation file
- Updated company documents and proof of the signatory’s authority.
- Beneficiary details, shareholding, and a name matching the receiving account.
- Financial statements and records supporting the relevant profits.
- The distribution resolution adopted by the body authorized under the company’s structure.
- Tax and banking documents required for the specific case.
This is a preparation checklist, not a uniform mandatory list for every bank. Request the current requirements early, especially if the beneficiary is a foreign legal entity or the ownership structure has several tiers.
Separate profit from available cash
The accounts may show a profit while substantial sums remain outstanding from customers. Before making a distribution, assess the company’s ability to meet payroll, supplier, tax, and operating obligations. Do not rely on the bank balance alone: part of it may be advance payments for work not yet performed or funds tied to existing liabilities.
Avoid discrepancies in transfer details
Check the beneficiary’s name, account number, currency, and company details across the resolution and banking documents. If a shareholder changes an account, verify the request through an independently confirmed channel and retain supporting evidence. This reduces the risk of paying the wrong account or relying on an unverified message.
Practical example
If a company resolves to distribute an amount to two shareholders, one of whom is abroad, keep each shareholder’s entitlement, payment account, and transaction type separately documented. Confirm the foreign transfer requirements with the bank before promising a firm payment date. This allows any missing documents to be addressed without delaying other company decisions.
Frequently asked question
Is every amount withdrawn by a shareholder considered profit?
No. The nature of the transaction, the basis of entitlement, and its accounting treatment matter—not only the description entered by the person requesting the transfer.

Requirements and procedures should be checked against the facts of the project and the rules in force when the transfer is made. The checklists and examples are practical preparation tools and do not replace review of transaction-specific documents.
