Family residence applications depend on a legally established relationship and a valid residence basis for the principal person. Marriage or parentage must be shown with documents accepted in Egypt; uncertified copies or details that differ from passports may delay the file.

Who may be included?

Applications may cover a spouse and children, subject to the facts and rules in force. Other relatives may require a separate legal basis and additional documents; do not assume they qualify under the same route.

Documents to prepare

  • Valid passports and relevant entry and residence records.
  • Marriage certificate and children’s birth certificates.
  • Consular and other required attestations and certified Arabic translation.
  • Proof of address in Egypt and documents showing the principal person’s residence status.
  • Photographs, application forms, and current fees.

A spouse who is an Egyptian citizen may change the basis of the application, but the marriage record, accurate identity details, and continuing relationship still matter. Residence must also be distinguished from an application for citizenship, which has separate conditions and procedures.

Common causes of delay

Incomplete authentication, inconsistent names or dates of birth, an unregistered marriage, expired residence of the principal person, or unclear address details. Correct discrepancies before filing where possible.

Before applying

  1. Check that all passports remain valid.
  2. Obtain current civil-status records.
  3. Complete accepted authentication and translation steps.
  4. Identify the residence basis for each family member.
  5. Track renewal dates for the whole family in one calendar.

Requirements vary by nationality, basis, authority, and documents. This is general information and does not replace reviewing the file. Official source: General Administration of Passports, Immigration and Nationality. Legal/editorial review: Legal Protector team, September 2026.
