Incorporating a company in Egypt does not automatically grant residence. It may provide a legal basis for an investor residence application if the company and investor satisfy the applicable requirements. Incorporation and residence are separate processes.
Shareholder status and residence status
A foreigner may hold shares in an Egyptian company without necessarily having a current residence permit or the right to work. Residence is issued through a separate procedure based on company and investment documents and the rules in force.
Practical sequence
- Incorporate the company and obtain its articles and commercial-register record.
- Complete tax records and documents that evidence genuine business activity.
- Prepare investor identity documents and passport, plus current residence details if any.
- Obtain an investment-authority recommendation or certificate when applicable.
- Apply to the Passports, Immigration and Nationality authority and meet its review requirements.
Factors that may affect the application
The investor’s role and shareholding, capital and company type, seriousness and location of the activity, passport and security review, and residence rules in force at filing. If the foreign investor will work as a manager or expert, a separate work permit or procedure may also be required.
Errors to avoid
Do not form a paper company solely for residence, let the company’s registers or documents expire, change its address without updates, or assume the investor’s permit automatically covers family members.
